Taskbar is flipping out, jittering like crazy

It crashed again and this time I thought to get the crash report it was sending Apple:

Can you try to reset settings: `Settings → Settings → Reset Settings` and reboot + ensure you have not a stale second process of the Taskbar runnig?

if that does not work i will provide the 2.1 for you until i fixed it

the only change between 2.1 and 2.2 is conditional on the user using the new Top orientation. did you upgrade from 2.1 or an older version?

Version 2.3 & 2.3.2 crash for me as well, but only if I open the settings UI. Mine doesn't flicker or jitter or freak out like the other user is describing, but it does crash when opening settings. If I leave whatever settings were saved alone, it runs fine. It's not even from interacting with the settings UI, it just crashes roughly 5 seconds after the panel opens.



Once I get to this settings screen, there's roughly a 3-5 second window before the app crashes/closes itself and I have to restart it.



I'm sticking with this version for now since it has all the latest features, just wanted to add context that this isn't isolated to just this user. Version 2.2 didn't crash on me like this.

Mine may be unrelated to his issue. I was able to quickly hit "Reset all settings" in the settings UI before it crashed, and it no longer crashes for me. This seems dependent on the top position setting. It only crashes for me when top position is enabled & settings ui is open.

**Steps to reproduce:**
1. Enable top position in settings
2. Close and reopen the settings UI
3. App crashes roughly 3-5 seconds after the settings panel opens
4. Reset all settings (top position back to default) and the crash stops

Sorry you have to encounter those issues, but we gonna fix it.

just having a hard time reproducing it, tried also auto-hide dock and all dock orientaitons. your dock is at the bottom on a external monitor, right? and it only occurs with DisplayLink Manager, like the other issue or not?!

i will investigate the code in the meantime, maybe i can find something.

@schneidermayer I did reset and restart (saw you'd suggested that on a previous thread) and it isn't jittering anymore but it was doing some stuff where it was freezing etc (that's when I got the bug report I just posted.)

I'll try the alternatives if the issue arises again and will be sure to post an update on how things go over the next week.

OH and I did upgrade from 2.1. Though only recently did I move to 2.1.

Yes, the dock is on the external monitor, which is set as my primary display. Auto-hide is enabled. Attached a screenshot of all my dock settings.





Also attaching my display arrangement in case the issue is related to having a monitor positioned above the primary display.

i will try to reproduce.
in the meantime, i found a bug regarding the settings window, which i just rolled out as version `2.2.4`
2.2.5 will follow soon, which will allow to attach Diagnostics to provide better support!

@jcklpe please also try `2.2.4` and tell me if possible the following:
- where is your dock?
- do you use auto-hide for dock?
- do you use multiple monitors? which dock/setup? displaylink manager involved?
- does it occur with all taskbar-settings resetted?
- which apps did you open
- exact scenario how to reproduce the freeze

Whatever change you made in 2.2.4 for Jcklpe seems to have fixed my crashing issue as well. It no longer crashes when opening the settings menu with top position enabled. Everything's working smoothly now.

@schneidermayer just upgraded to 2.2.5 using the built in updating tool.

To your questions:

do you use multiple monitors? which dock/setup? displaylink manager involved?: yes, I'm using 2 external monitors, through a dock, that uses displaylink manager
does it occur with all taskbar-settings resetted?: It wasn't jittering after the reset but did freeze. So far today it hasn't frozen though.
which apps did you open: I had photoshop, claude desktop, vscode, finder, tabby, and chrome open. Photoshop feels like it may have been the cause because that's when it started jittering bad.
exact scenario how to reproduce the freeze: unsure.

@schneidermayer haven't seen the issue pop again. It may have also been triggered by the "keep minimized windows in the taskbar" option since that's what I had on when it was flipping out and then it stopped flipping out (but still froze) when I reset and turned that off. That said, it's no longer doing that, and I have set the keep minimized windows option back on. Just contributing that as a potential issue.

Also purchased a license! :) Again, thank you, this is a life saver for me. I love having both a dock and taskbar, keeps more more organized.

I will close for now, but reopen if I see a problem within the next couple of weeks.
