Option: show windows from all displays on every taskbar

Gábor opened

Mac Taskbar currently gives each display its own taskbar showing only that display's windows. Having a combined view (in all, or only on the primary display) is a missing functionality.

The reasons why it matters for me:

  • I treat the taskbar as a worklist. If I keep three VS Code windows open, that's three parallel pieces of work. I need to see all of them at a glance, regardless of which display they sit on. Splitting them per display means looking in two places to know what I have open.
  • Having an app pinned and with a window on one display hides the app button, but on the other display it shows the app button like if it didn't have any open windows.
  • Moving a window between displays makes its button jump.

A single toggle, "show windows from all displays", would cover both, though personally I would be happy to only keep taskbar on my primary display.

we actually had this feature before.
i restored the feature, and it will come with the next update.

Thanks for the quick response and turnaround, I'll keep an eye open for the new version.

2.5 got released, happy to hear your feedback

Gábor

Thanks for this, now I can see all my open windows in one place conveniently, which was a missing piece for me to fully settle into this taskbar (and buy the license).

If you welcome feedback, I can think of one improvement, an option to always show all windows on the primary display (from all displays), but keep the same-display-only showing on the other displays (so a mixed setup). But that would only make sense, if the app buttons which have an open window on my primary display would also not show on the second display (which was bugging me with the default/previous setting). So maybe none of the app buttons should be shown on the second display in this case? I'm not sure what would be better from UX point of view...

Thanks for the feedback! We'll implement this mixed setup.

Thanks for this, I think it works perfectly, for me personally it is really convenient this way. :)
